Ed started drawing as soon as he could pick up a crayon. His parents enrolled him in a neighborhood art school at the age of 7, and his passion for art continued through high school and college. He received his degree of fine art from Northern Illinois University.
It wasn't until a couple of years later that Ed discovered his love for woodcarving. He taught himself the art of sculpting wood, developing his own unique approach. What started out as a hobby, has now become Ed's dream job. He has been crafting his original wood sculptures for over twenty years.
His love for antiques, primitives, and Early American folk art has inspired him to create work that is truly reflective of the past, but in a style that is distinctly his own. His figures range from historical, to just a bit odd. On any given day, you will find Ed in his Illinois workshop carving a vintage circus performer, magician, or country music legend.
While subject matter varies widely, every piece maintains Ed’s high level of craftsmanship and detail. This includes his signature, antiqued painted finish, which has become as recognizable as his carving style. Ed’s work is highly regarded in the folk and fine art community. His truly original pieces are displayed in collections throughout the country and around the world.
