Cheryl Mackey Smith is a ceramic artist who focusses on inspirations from nature. She began creating framed abstracted 3D pieces of Watercolor paper that were sculpted, rolled, twisted and tied in the early 1980's. Since then, she has moved into using clay bodies exclusively to create her hand-formed or rolled pieces. The pieces are kiln fired and often pit fired to add smokey colors and textures. The individual pieces are then arranged and adhered to an archival backing and framed. Each piece has a peaceful and zen-like quality that makes the work fit in any surrounding.
