Artist bio: Bede Clarke has been a Professor of Art at MU since 1992. He received his Master of Fine Arts from The University of Iowa (1990) and a BFA from Eckerd College (1982). Bede’s work is found in collections in the U.S. and abroad, such as: Taipei County Yingke Ceramics Museum, Taiwan, Ichon World Ceramic Center, South Korea, Bermuda National Gallery and Martin Museum of Art, Baylor University.Bede maintains a studio in Columbia, Missouri where he produces his ceramic art work and continues to exhibit worldwide, recently at Belger Crane Yard Studios, Kansas City, Mo, Schaller Gallery, St. Joseph, MI, Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, FL, and Snite Museum of Art, Notre Dame University. Since coming to MU in 1992 Bede has conducted over 75 workshops and lectures around the country and internationally. He is a recipient of the Kansas City Artist Coalition’s, Lighton International Artist Exchange Award (2007) providing a residency at the Fundaciao Artigas in Gallifa, Spain. Other awards have included: • Sturt Australian Contemporary Craft Center Residency Award (2007) • Fletcher Challenge Ceramic Award, New Zealand (1996) • Kennedy Center Fellowship for Teachers of the Arts (1987)MU awards include a 2003 Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Research/Creative Activity in the Humanities and Fine Arts as well as the Byler Distinguished Professor Award.
