Artist bio: Egg tempera paint is an ancient process of hand making paint by mixing pure pigment powder with a blend of egg yolk and water, called the medium. I enjoy egg tempera because of its handling properties. Because of the egg yolk binding agent, it dries in seconds, leaving crisp, delicate brush strokes that don’t build up and smear, like oil paint. There is a clarity to egg tempera that is unmatched by most other mediums. No work of art is complete without audience participation. To that end, I employ realistic illusions that create the sense of great depth, inviting the viewer into each painting. Egg tempera is the best medium I have found to furnish these illusions.
