Artist bio: I have always found inspiration in old vintage unloved objects, nature, and reclaimed, rusted, painted and patinaed metals. The beauty and mystery inherent in old and forgotten objects offers me the opportunity to transform the ordinary into something new. A curious child, I spent hours outside my parents’ Northeast Iowa home in the woods and prairies exploring and finding all kinds of interesting discarded "junk". Later, this curiosity lead me to a profession in visual arts instruction and then, to the wonder of Paraguay, South America (as a Peace Corps Volunteer with my husband) and finally back to the beautiful limestone bluffs and rivers of my childhood. My studio and home, where I live with my husband, daughter and 2 cats is in the small Northeast Iowa town of my childhood; a very special place where I have been blessed to work as a full-time professional artist for the past 20+ years selling my work at fine contemporary art fairs & galleries around the country. I am artistically and emotionally drawn to reclaimed vintage objects that have a history and story to tell. The beauty within the natural patina of these objects lends itself to telling and creating a story all its own. For me, each of my assemblages; either within one of my hand bound leather book’s cover surface assemblages or my framed assemblages is a story of the little things we all need to be gently reminded of each day-the little things we often forget. Each piece is a chance to give these old, often forgotten, objects a second chance at a new life. My goal is to create a new story from the objects and images I alter and assemble and hopefully creating a piece of art that can be placed somewhere where you can be reminded each day of the little things in life that truly matter!
