Artist bio: Kathrine Allen-Coleman Bio and Artist Statement I feel very fortunate to have been born and raised on Vancouver Island, B.C. My Mother and Father were both very supportive of my artistic hobbies and pursuits, and both had talents and interests that they shared with me. My Arts education began with an Associate Degree in Visual Arts from Camosun College in Victoria B.C. From there I began working with artists I admired in classroom and workshop settings. The Victoria College of Art, The University of Victoria, and the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts gave me regular infusions of learning and creativity. I moved to Georgia in the summer of 1998, and participated in my first outdoor festival that fall. I have been a full time artist since that time. This body of work incorporates relief printing, collage, and embroidery. I carve patterns and images into linoleum or dense foam. Once carved, it is printed dozens of times in different colors. These prints are sorted and stored to build the palette from which each painting is built. The layering of patterns represents the passing of time. Like layers of old wallpaper, or a much used and often mended quilt. I see these as landscapes, city blocks and farmers fields, yielding to time. Property lines shifting like the tides, the rotating of crops, the change of seasons.
