Artist bio: Tom studied art at the University of Kansas where he was introduced to metalsmithing and glass. He started his first art studio before graduating and discovered his passion for blowing glass. Tom’s unique style started in college with his work in jewelry making, which later turned into much larger scale metalworking. His larger pieces incorporate sculpted metal and blown glass. Inspired by how the two mediums compliment the other has been a major focus in the work. The latest edition to his sculpture portfolio is called the Meditation series. Each sculpture starts by blowing and sculpting colorful blown glass pieces. They are sand blasted, fire polished and suspended with stainless steel embedded in an organic cast concrete base.
Artist Statement: Blown glass vessel using colored glass shards for coloration. Each piece is sandblasted, brought up to temperature in a kiln and lastly fire polished in the glory hole to achieve a beautiful luster.
