Artist bio: Meri Ellen Taylor has been a metalsmith/jeweler for over 35 years. Her midtown St. Louis, Missouri studio is located in Utopia Studios, a century-old tobacco factory which caters to artists in a variety of visual and performing arts. There, she spends hours designing and creating sterling and gold one-of-a-kind pieces which are influenced by everything in nature: plants, animals, the elements, and the undulating motion of clouds, wind, and rain.
The artist is a long-time faculty member at Craft Alliance Center of Art and Design, and teaches jewelry making to adults and teens. She lives with her husband and her two tiny chihuahuas.
Artist Statement: I create one-of-a-kind jewelry out of sterling and gold honeycomb textured sheet which I also make myself. Pieces are finished with natural gems, patina, and 24kt gold. Clasps and findings are also often handmade. I work solo in my studio without assistants; every piece is made solely by my hands.
