Born 1963 in Grand Junction, Colorado and raised in Chautauqua County, New York, Michael earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art where he studied with Brent Kee Young. He has also studied with Flora Mace and Joey Kirkpatrick at the Pilchuck Glass School, with Charles Savoie at the Penland School of Crafts, Rene Culler and Philippa Beverage in Barcelona, Spain.

In 1994, Michael was artist in residence at the Creative Glass Center of America in New Jersey. He exhibits in galleries and juried fine art and fine craft exhibitions throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian Craft Show and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show.

Michael maintains his studio, MIDTOWN GLASSWORKS in Cleveland, Ohio where he was awarded the Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture Creative Workforce Fellowship grant and an Ohio Arts Council Award For Excellence in Craft.
