The Des Moines Arts Festival invites regional artists and arts organizaitons to submit proposals for an interactive public art project to convert 6,731 vinyl records into a public art project that will create conversation and connection to the community.
The artwork is to be executed by the guests of the Festival during the annual event June 24-26, 2022.
SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: The Des Moines Arts Festival was gifted 6,371 vinyl records with the idea that they could be re-purposed into an interactive public art project. The project can be 2-D or 3-D. We’re open to all ideas. Proposals for what to do with the records should include ideas on where to install the final artwork and how guests of the festival will contribute.
When selected, the artist(s)/organization will receive a fee for development, management, and on-site build.
The selected artist(s)/organization will lead festival staff and volunteers through the development process, be the creative point person on-site during the festival, and assist in the installation of the finished project post-festival.
Please complete one application per idea/proposal. There is no limit to the number of submissions.
Required Artwork Characteristics:
Artwork that is suitable for public viewing.
Artwork that can be created by the community.
If the proposed final location is outdoors, the artwork is suitable for outdoor display in adverse weather conditions
Artwork that has the soundness of construction, is durable, and is safe for viewing
