Hubbell Homes, and Des Moines Arts Festival® are proud to host the Student Art Exhibition (SAE). The SAE is a program that spotlights the creativity of children K-12 attending schools in central Iowa.

Students’ artistic achievements will be on display at the festival, June 25-27. Students will be celebrated at the Visionary Artist Ceremony during the 2021 festival.

COVID-19 Update

It is the intent of the Des Moines Arts Festival to implement consistent and relevant protocols that will ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our partners and guests at the end of June.

Saturday Visionary Artist Ceremony

All Student Art Exhibition participants and teachers are invited to the Visionary Artist Ceremony on Saturday June 26, 2021 on the Hy-Vee Main Stage (located on the West side of 12th St., between Locust St. and Grand Ave.). This year, the ceremony will be divided into two sessions by grade.

  • If your child/student is in Kindergarten through 4th grade, the ceremony will begin at 10:00a.m. We ask that you please arrive at 9:45a.m.
  • If your child/student is in 5th through 12th grade, the ceremony will begin at 11:45a.m. We ask that you please arrive at 11:30a.m. for this ceremony.
During each session, student artists will be called on stage to receive a medallion of appreciation in recognition of their artistic efforts.

Note: the Student Art Exhibition will open upon the conclusion of the 10:00 a.m. Visionary Artist Ceremony session.

Teacher Check-List

    Read Official Guidelines.
    Complete the School and Student Artwork Information Form
    Select your student artwork (up to four per school)
    Send the Student/Parent letter home with participating students to inform them of upcoming events.
    Mail or Deliver Student Artwork. Specific date and location will be announced at a later time.
    View Student Artwork from participating schools on display at the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 25-27.
    Attend Visionary Artists Ceremony at the Festival on June 26, 2021.
    View Student Artwork from participating schools on display at the Central Library following the Festival through September 8, 2021.
    Attend Student Art Exhibition Reception on Wednesday, September 8, 2020 at 6 p.m. at the Central Library. We strongly encourage students and their families to attend so please remind them. Artwork can be taken home that evening.

Pick-Up of Student Artwork

  • IMPORTANT: Students will be required to SIGN for artwork taken from the Library.
  • Pick-up artwork immediately following the Student Art Exhibition Reception on September 8, 2021, at 6 p.m. or from the Greater Des Moines Partnership September 9 – September 30, 2021. The reception will be held at the Central Library, 1000 Grand Avenue, Downtown Des Moines.
  • Artwork will NOT be sent to schools or students.
  • Artwork not picked up at the Central Library will be taken to the Greater Des Moines Partnership (address above) and can be picked up Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For questions regarding pick-up, contact Daphne Dickens (ddickens@desmoinesartsfestival.org).
  • Please make arrangements to pick-up the artwork by September 30, 2021. After this date, artwork will be disposed of.
