student art exhibition

Hubbell Homes, Des Moines Art Center and Des Moines Arts Festival® are proud to host the Student Art Exhibition (SAE). The SAE is a program that spotlights the creativity of children K-12 attending schools in central Iowa through special exhibitions of their work at the Festival and Des Moines Central Library.

Presented by Hubbell Homes, the Des Moines Art Center and Des Moines Arts Festival® are proud to invite Central Iowa schools and students Kindergarten through 12th grades to participate in the SAE at the Festival on June 28-30, 2019, in downtown Des Moines’ Western Gateway Park! Students’ artistic achievements are recognized in a special exhibition on-site at the Festival; at the Visionary Artist Ceremony at the Festival on Saturday, June 29 at 11:30 a.m.; Student Art Exhibition Reception at the Des Moines Central Library on Wednesday, August 28 at 6 p.m.; and reward them with a Medallion and Des Moines Art Center Household Membership. In addition, participating teachers each receive a household membership to the Art Center and a chance to win one-of-five $250 awards in art supplies.

Teachers who are interested in enrolling students in the SAE, please review the Official Guidelines, and create a profile on our Events Locker page. Events Locker is a cloud-based management platform that allows us to provide you better service and efficiencies as we prepare for the annual event and will allow you to store all important documents relevant to your participation in one place. It will also enable us to effectively and efficiently communicate. Complete your profile on Events Locker by Friday, March 8, 2019 to confirm your school’s participation.

Once the participating school's teacher has created a profile on Events Locker, it will then be their responsibility to select up to four (4) students’ artworks from the registered school to be included in the SAE. All artwork must have been created during the 2018-2019 school year. The next step is to complete the SAE Student Art Entry Form (which will be loaded on your Events Locker profile page) to submit the students’ artwork information. Instructions about completing the Student Art Entry Form and details on how to deliver the artwork are included in the Official Guidelines and will be available only to those who have created a profile by the March 8th deadline.

After all artwork information has been submitted, teachers are asked to encourage their participating students, parents, and families to view the Exhibition at the Festival! There will be a Visionary Artist Ceremony hosted by Rick Tollakson and Hubbell Homes at the Festival Main Stage on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. to recognize each student artist. Additionally, five (5) student artworks will be featured on large banners displayed at the entrance to the Exhibition which they will receive at the Reception in August. Post Festival, all artwork will be transferred to be on display at the Downtown Des Moines Public Library.

Hubbell Homes will host the Student Art Exhibition Reception on August 28, 2019, at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Des Moines Public Library. Here, students will be able to pick up their art work and all participating schools are eligible to win one-of-five $250 awards for art supplies. Finally, to honor all participating teachers, the Des Moines Art Center will present each with a household membership to the Des Moines Art Center or renewal with submission of artwork to the SAE.

We look forward to creating a wonderful Exhibition and thank you in advance for your contributions to this outstanding display of Iowa’s most talented young artists.
