The Des Moines Arts Festival welcomes attendees with disabilities. We are dedicated to continually improving our efforts to ensure attendees have access to all festival activities, regardless of ability.


Locust St. between 17th - 10th St will close on Wednesday, June 24 at 9 a.m. through Monday, June 29 at 6 am. The heaviest traffic on Locust will be at rush hour.

Grand Ave. between 16th and 10th St. will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 through Monday, June 29 at 6 am. Access to the Downtown Library parking garage will be maintained.

Cross streets (12th, 13th, 15th) will be closed at 9 am on Wednesday, June 24.

All streets will reopen on Monday, June 29 at 6 am.


Designated handicap parking is located on Walnut Street between 12th & 13th Streets, south of the Festival grounds. Parking is limited and on a first-come, first served basis. Look for the ADA signs on the meters!

Complimentary parking is also available in the Nationwide garage (1100 Walnut Street) after 11:00 a.m. on Friday through the weekend.


The festival does offer a wheelchair check out located at our Volunteer Headquarters (13th Street, between Grand & Locust) on a first come, first serve basis; however, we encourage all patrons to utilize personal forms of transportation, including wheelchairs and scooters.


Main Stage, located between 12th & 13th Streets, Locust & Grand Streets.
Enjoy the Main Stage acts on an elevated Accessible Seating area. Look for the signs! Companions are welcome to join but may be asked to stand if platform becomes full.

Roots Stage, located on Locust Street, between 13th & 15th Streets.
The Roots Stage is tent covered. Accessible Seating area is near the stage at stage right. Companions are welcome to join.


First Aid is provided by Hawkeye First Aid. Tents are located on the SE corner of Grand & 12th, and the NE corner of 15th & Grand.


Both handicap and ADA accessible porto-potties are located at Locust & 15th & 12th & Grand. Air conditioned restrooms are located inside the Central Public Library (in between 10th & 12th Streets, Grand and Locust). They follow summer library hours. Visit their website for hours.


Air conditioning can be found at our Interrobang Film Festival, located in the Central Public library on our site! Located in between 10th & 12th Street and Grand and Locust, doors are open 11am-7pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday.


Service animals are permitted throughout the festival.


  • NO emotional support animals, therapy animals, or companion animals.
  • Pets are not allowed and will be turned away.
  • Only legitimate service animals that are properly trained and under the proper care of their owners will be provided with the appropriate credentials.
  • Service animals must remain by the handler’s side at all times and must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered.
    • If these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal or other effective controls.
  • Service animals must be housebroken and should use the service animal relief area.
  • Anyone bringing an animal will be responsible for and liable for any damage or injury caused by the animal.
  • All animals should have legally required vaccinations (which may need to be verified).
