Artist Bio

Louis Reilly was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1986. He earned a BFA at University of Missouri-Columbia in 2009 and a MFA at Utah State University of 2013. He currently lives in Lee’s Summit, MO with his wife, April and son, Owen. Louis is the Studio Director of KC Clay Guild, a non-profit ceramic arts center in Kansas City, MO.

Louis’ work is based on distilling the work of historical potters into something that fits well into the contemporary home. His work is a mash-up of world ceramics with a particular interest in pots made in Japan and England. Louis’ work is soda fired at high temperature using high-alumina clay bodies to achieve various firing effects.

Louis has a home studio and fires his work in a downdraft soda kiln he built at KC Clay Guild.
