Artist Bio
Illustrator Abbas Husain and printmaker Noreen Walls are married collaborators making brightly-colored screen prints by hand in their studio in Chicago. Their work aims to reveal the silliness and joy that exists within serious and scary things. Their favorite subjects are sea creatures, dinosaurs, and fantastical scenery and characters.
Designs typically start as rough sketches, then with pencil & pen or digital drawing, Abbas draws the linework for the design. Then Abbas builds layers (also known as separations or screens) for the colors that are screen printed underneath the linework. Noreen takes the separations to the press and prints each layer by hand, carefully lining up each color, using custom mixed acrylic inks on heavy cover paper. Each print is numbered and signed by both artists.
