I guess in today’s world one would probably refer to me as a “fairly” traditional painter. I hate to be put into a box - my painting subjects and methods tend to be rather diverse. While some may frown upon that, I like to change things up quite a bit - it keeps me interested and engaged by regularly swopping subject matter and experimenting with different techniques.
The landscape pieces (with both an urban grittiness and a more idyllic, rural flavour) that I have brought with me this weekend are representative of my need to document my own, always changing habitat, which I feel compelled to interpret and paint.
I was born in Ireland and grew up in South Africa - maybe that is why I am intrigued by the diversity of and in my world…. To fulfill an inner need to record my surroundings, and a hope that you, the viewer will relate to what I have personally experienced. I now live on a farm in S. Central Minnesota, but regularly travel to metropolitan Minneapolis where I have a studio/gallery.
The works you are seeing today are oil paintings on both canvas and wood panels, using a variety of traditional and experimental techniques.
