Artist Bio
Lewis first put her hands in clay when she and her brothers found clay on the banks of a nearby creek. They built objects and ‘cities’ on boulders in the creek, watched them wash away and built more. With no art program in the small town public school she attended in Michigan she relished the art classes she took at a small private college in Iowa and got a minor in art. After spending 35 years as an educator, completing a masters degree and raising 4 children she put her hands in clay again returning to her love of ‘creating objects’. She now works full time as an artist creating figurative sculptures from clay and has worked with many figurative artists of note including Akio Takamori, Cristina Cordova, Judy Fox, Esther Shimasu and many others. Over the last 10 years Linda has exhibited her sculptures at over 70 nationally recognized juried art festivals, galleries, exhibitions including Dubuque Museum of Art, Iowa State University, Central College, Baker University, Graceland University, SOFA Chicago and Art Palm Beach. She has received several awards including Best of Show, First Place in Sculpture, Best of 3D as well as recognition in national print media. During the pandemic she has experimented with printmaking and mixed media, incorporating her use of layers and texture on the surface of her sculptures with her 2-D work.
Linda maintains a studio practice at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines, Iowa and lives with her husband Vincent in West Des Moines. They have four grown children and 6 grandchildren.
