Artist Bio
I am an Early Childhood Educator who turns timber when not teaching young students. Woodworking became my hobby when I thought “I can build that” when I needed something for my home or classroom. I started turning bowls in 2009 and I gravitated toward natural edge bowls when I saw the various shapes I could create from that style (not just circles).
I gather my turning stock from the forests and trees of southern Wisconsin. I want to bring the forest into my customer’s home. I look for defects like stretch marks (crotch bowls), tumors (burls), limbs and bug damage to feature in my pieces. My motto is “Telling the story of a tree, one bowl at a time”. I am the second artist that works with the tree, the first one created it.
