Artist Bio
I photograph the American West, aspiring to capture imagery that embodies the feeling of freedom and awe that it elicits. Inspiration comes from elements such as wide open spaces, the coast, nostalgic relics, wildlife and human impact. My specific work concentrations vary over time like a musician’s albums, with my current collection focusing on minimalist interpretations of varied subject matter in calming atmospherics.
Years of photographic explorations have led me to the point where I can let a fluctuating combination of deliberation, intuition and chance guide my shooting experience. I may have a specific goal in mind, but a seemingly wrong turn often leads to a discovery of visual intrigue. The process never gets easier, but I’ve accepted that this is how my personal version of photographic art is made. When I venture out to shoot, the feeling still mirrors how I felt as a child taking photographs on many different types of cameras or as a young adult when I packed everything I owned into my car and headed West. The experience of slowly taking in and photographing the uniquely American scenes along desolate highways and roads justified the magnetic pull. The images I choose to share are representative of a longing for free exploration, connection by common bonds, and a humble appreciation of the beauty and vastness of the American West.
