Artist Bio
Sebastian Sanchez-Falero (b. 1991, Lima, Peru) is a visual artist based in Ames, Iowa, whose practice spans photography, digital collage, and installation. In "Dreamscapes" (2023–2026), he builds images as atmospheres of perception and sensation, composing the human body, botanical forms, and luminous surfaces into metaphors of intimacy and selfhood, drawing on the immense creative power of the subconscious. The work is produced as limited-edition giclée prints on pearlescent paper and canvas, and as translucent-film prints presented on backlit panels, where light seems to emanate without a single discernible source, heightening the sense of a dream-state image.
His exhibitions include the Memorial Union Art Gallery (Ames, IA), Mainframe Studios (Des Moines, IA), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), the Elena Poniatowska Foundation (Mexico City), and the Fermilab Art Gallery (Batavia, IL). His work is held in the collection of Reiman Gardens (Ames, IA) and in private collections internationally. Sánchez-Falero participated in PHotoESPAÑA 2023 (Mexico City) and was juried into the Des Moines Arts Festival in 2025 and 2026; his 2025 festival work explored contemporary technologies as a lens on human identity and consciousness.
