Artist Bio
My flameworked and kiln-formed glass sculptures draw from organic structures and natural systems, exploring transparency, balance, fragility, and impermanence. Working with borosilicate and soda-lime glass, I shape rods and tubes using a torch that reaches 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, manipulating the material in midair with stainless steel tools. I am captivated by the moment glass shifts from solid to liquid—when it flows with a water-like fluidity. My work seeks to suspend this fleeting transformation in a stable form. Surface treatments such as sandblasting and vapor deposition of gold or silver alter the way light is absorbed and reflected, adding depth and complexity. Though physically durable, the sculptures retain a visual delicacy, using transparency and layered forms to suggest motion, reflection, and the impermanence found in nature.
