OBVARA
Obvara is a 12th century eastern European
technique for sealing low fire pottery.
Originating in the Baltic region (Lithuania ,
Latvia , Estonia ,and Belarus ) its also
referred to as Baltic raku.

Like raku a bisque pot is heated to 1650-1750
degrees Fahrenheit then removed from
the kiln while still hot and dipped into a
mixture of flour , water ,sugar and yeast .
When the pot is pulled out of the mixture
it starts burning and scalding the surface
creating different colors and patterns .the
pots are then dunked into water to stop
the process .It creates a natural organic
looking surface that is soft and warm to
the touch
