Artist Bio

Chris Cumbie is a self-taught outsider artist raised in rural Alabama, where resourcefulness wasn’t just a skill—it was a way of life. Drawing from a childhood spent watching his grandfather build anything with his hands, Chris learned early on that creativity didn’t always require fancy tools, just curiosity and a pile of scraps. His work is crafted from whatever he can find—wood, metal, discarded odds and ends—each piece a tactile story pulled from memory, instinct, and imagination.

Today, his art is deeply personal, shaped not only by his Southern roots but also by the wide-eyed wonder of his children, whose fearless ideas push him to explore new directions. Chris doesn’t follow rules or trends—he follows the spark. What starts as a random thought or a weird visual from the back of his brain often becomes a striking and soulful piece that feels both raw and alive.
