Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist living near Asheville, NC with my wife Angelica and son Sylvan. I first became interested in wire sculpture because it bridges both linear drawing and sculpture, the two and three dimensions. I create intricately woven wire sculptures using recycled aluminum, recycled copper or steel wire. Often, I'll oxidize the steel wire with a variety of acids to create unusual patinas. Over the years, I've developed my own innovative techniques using simple tools to painstakingly hand-manipulate, wrap and weave the wire to itself. With the use of negative space, combined with the linear nature of the wire, the finished work is much like a pen and ink drawing in sculptural form. My work is at times whimsical and surreal, and explores dichotomous themes such as the lines between human and animal, light and dark, and death and life.
