Artist Bio
Born in West Allis Wisconsin in 1982, Katie Musolff is a full time painter living on a farm with her tall red- headed painter husband located just north of Milwaukee Wisconsin. She always knew that she wanted to be an artist and graduated from eh Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2004. Since then, her work has changed dramatically a few times ranging from portraiture to nature based stillifes. The consistent aspect of Katie’s is her ability to absorb her subjects from direct observation and her adamant curiosity about the world around her. She is continuously collecting feathers, bugs, little adventures and good stories that narrate the life she lives from day to day.
The most important thing you need to know about me is that I am intensely curious and incredibly serious about making my art and, have been doing so full time for the last 15 years. It’s my self-prescribed job to slowly walk through my surroundings and seek out what other people have looked over, taken for granted, or carelessly ruined. Then, I take my findings back to my studio. I lay them out and pay my respects to them by carefully and tenderly recording their presence using watercolor on paper as my medium. When the piece of art is complete, I put it back in front of the same people as if to say: Stop And Look. Look at what happens when you’re not paying attention, what grows up between the cracks in the pavement, or what you hit with your car yesterday... It is my hope that my meticulous methods will elevate the importance of my subject so that others end up noticing them too and there for appreciate them more.
