Artist Bio

Kristin Gruenberger’s whimsical ceramic work ignites the imagination and draws the viewer into a storybook and down the rabbit hole. Each piece creates an experience, introducing a sense of play as it is both utilized and visually enjoyed. Ceramic form and surface are explored through altering, texturing, incising and glazing techniques. Each piece begins as a basic wheel thrown form of function, then becoming an object of curiosity that evokes a sense of childlike wonderment.

Kristin graduated with a BFA in ceramics from Metropolitan State University in 2011. Since graduating, she has further enhanced her knowledge of ceramics through assistantships, lectures and workshops. As her work has developed, she has been exhibiting in art festivals and galleries. Native to Colorado, she is active in the Denver and Gunnison art scene, working with outreach programs and offering workshops to promote art within the community. She has taught at various art centers in the metro area and continues to teach private lessons and classes on form and surface. Currently, she is working as a full time ceramic artist and instructor in Gunnison, CO and is the owner of Wonderland Clayworks, a community studio that explores and encourages imagination by working in clay.
