Artist Bio

This is the part where I'm supposed to write poetically about esoteric references and try to impress you with my inspirations. But that is not me. Truth be told, my inspirations are right in front of me: the jumble of colors in a laundry basket, the shadows on the ground and the need to create. Many times the start of a project begins with what I have on hand. I collect vintage silk fabrics and yarn and let the ideas of them marinate in my head. My time open water swimming in Lake Michigan lets my mind relax to bring forth ideas, designs and solutions. My work has been featured in national magazines, in books and on HGTV.

I love to experiment with textile techniques and give them my own spin. As the daughter of depression-era parents, the things I make need to be practical and usable, and I try to use every scrap of material. I believe that the wearable aspect of Wearable Art is as important as the artistry. I believe in slow fashion and making people feel special. As a proud Iowa Hawkeye, I'm thrilled to be at the Des Moines Art Festival.
