Photographer Mike Jones, is a Sioux City Artist and Educator. Mike received his Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Dakota in 2019. He continues his career as an educator teaching sound, video production and photography at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
While working towards the MFA, Mike began developing a voice with his own brand of photo collage. Using his original photographs cut into strips, separate images are combined resulting in variations that transform the flat pictorial plane into sculptural elements that seek to exist in 3D space and create their own atmosphere.
The unique amalgamated meaning creates a narrative greater than the independent nature of the photographs alone. Mike’s art explores archetypal themes of personal rebirth, spirituality and surrealism.
